Very interesting post, as usual. I like both of the illustrations, but find the yellow one more luminous and appealing.

Both parts of this post are interesting. Thanks. In regard to accents: My mother was born and raised in Atlanta, so she had a strong southern accent when she married my dad. He needed her to get rid of her accent, probably for professional reasons, at least in part, as he was an officer in the Navy, with the requisite social obligations and the accompanying need to make a good impression. She told me she had to master saying 'Forty-four pork chops and four more' properly, with the required r's.

All the same, many years later, when selling ice cream from a truck in Kalamazoo, I was asked whether I came from the South. She seems to have kept some of her accent and passed it along to her sons.
