Thanks, Bill. Strange to see people who stand up for Palestinian autonomy throw in with Russia.

And they accuse people protesting Russia’s war of not caring about other conflicts. To the contrary, seeing the effects of one war sensitizes people to others. It’s all the same experience for civilians especially. It was very hard to see videos of the recent Gaza bombings for example. There’s no excuse for it.

People think crazy , ridiculous things in order to appear smarter than the rest of us. It's not really working. But I had no idea there are Russian influenced TV stations in Beruit and that western politicians go there for interviews. Seems like desperate stuff, alright.

You mentioned Taiwan. I've always wondered about that place given that they were trying to obtain independence after WWII and Chiang's mainland KMT govt imposed harsh controls on the island, killing and jailing thousands. When the CCP was clearly going to win, the KMT basically occupied Taiwan. The CCP definitely shouldn't be in control of Taiwan but I sometimes wonder if the ROC should be there either. Nowadays the mainlanders clearly outnumber the native Taiwanese but I'm reminded of our own dealing with American Indians.

Yes, the ROC on Taiwan has a terrible history, but has reformed in recent decades. It ended martial law, now allows other political parties, and has a credible democratic system, but not perfect. CCP would be a lot worse. Even if a gradual takeover was negotiated, as they did in Hong Kong, we've seen the CCP is not very trustworthy, and is not interested in allowing any vestige of independence to remain.

Oh, I don't trust the CCP for much of anything. They're up there with North Korea and Putin in my mind.
